Attorney

I am a semi-retired attorney looking for a few more good clients. When necessary and with the client’s permission I associate other attorneys and professionals to assist in matters requiring more resources.

I started my law career in Tulsa, Oklahoma as an Assistant Public Defender representing children in the Juvenile Court setting. After a rewarding five years I chaired the Criminal Justice Department at the University of Tulsa, a private liberal arts university and maintained a small private law practice concentrating on criminal law.

California beckoned and I moved to San Francisco where I first worked as a legal writer for the legal publisher, Matthew Bender. I passed the California Bar exam and went to work as a Deputy District Attorney in the Contra Costa County DA’s Office and worked there for two years before I joined the California Attorney General’s Office in Los Angeles. During my 14 years as a Deputy Attorney General and Supervising Deputy Attorney General most of my duties were related to the investigation and prosecution of health care fraud although I spent two years dealing with environmental issues. I headed the Civil Prosecutions Unit in the Bureau of Medi-Cal Fraud & Elder Abuse dealing with civil matters involving the California and Federal False Claims Acts. I left the Attorney General’s Office to be “Of Counsel” for the health care provider law firm, Hooper, Lundy & Bookman, PC (HLB). While at HLB I concentrated on criminal defense, False Claims Act defense and administrative law dealing with CLIA, health care audits and professional licensing issues.

I left HLB for private practice with a concentration on administrative law, white-collar criminal defense and False Claims Act prosecution and defense. I also expanded my practice areas to include defense contracting False Claims issues and issues including Home Land Security oversight. I have worked as general counsel for two non-profit health care entities and as an administrative law judge since 2008. I have developed an interest in Art Law as it pertains to artist’s rights, art authentication and gallery integrity.

My ideal client will be a person, family or small business who needs an attorney to resolve their immediate problem and plan and protect their future.
